Quick Tip: Find Patents that a Target Assignee has Acquired

When studying a company, I often want to know what patents they have acquired.  There is a really easy technique in CobaltIP to find these patents and chart them by the assignor patentee (the seller).

CobaltIP has two assignee queries that you use to answer this question:

1. AN:  The Original Assignee
2. ANRE_CUR:  The Current Assignee.

Any patent that was acquired by your target firm will have a different name in the Original Assignee column.  So you are really asking…  Show me all patents where the current assignee contains the target company’s name, but the original assignee does not.  Let’s use Apple, Inc as the example.

The query looks like this:

ANRE_CUR:(Apple) NOT AN:(APPLE)

Simple.

Now chart it:
Try it yourself; it is powerful analysis that only takes a few seconds to create!
